Three Easy Pieces: Casual Weekend.

Hi everyone! The weather in Philly this weekend has been beautiful so far. Yesterday I ended up strolling around Old City (highly recommend checking out Cafe Olé for the best shakshuka in town!), and then stopping by a few shops in Center City. Here are a few casual pieces that I came across in-store and ended up ordering online for proper sizing (for reference, my measurements are here):

1) Pointed-toe ballerina flats. I’ve been looking for a pair of casual black ballerinas to replace my very old and torn black Cece flats. I came across this pair at Zara and they’re a nice dupe of the Gemma flats from J. Crew (see my review of Gemma pointed-toe flats here), which are a nice dupe of these Repetto flats that I continue to admire from afar. The heels and soles on the Zara flats are made of a very thick rubber and feel pretty solid for everyday use. The upper portion of the shoe is made with embossed polyurethane and cotton, so the print sort of looks “reptilian” up close. In-store, I tried on a size 37, which is the equivalent of a US size 6.5 (my typical shoe size is a 6 or 6.5). This was a little too loose for me at the heel, so I placed an order online for a size 6.

2) Draped coat. Jumping on the waterfall coat trend here. I liked the lightweight feel of the fabric on this trench— it’s ideal for spring. The draped lapels and waist tie make it a nice casual garment to throw on for brunch and weekend activities. Compared to other fast-fashion options, I thought that the quality of this one was pretty good– it is lined, and there are functional side pockets. I only saw a size 12 in the store, so I ordered a size 2 online in the taupe color (a heads up: if you sign up for the H&M newsletter, you can get 20% off your purchase and free shipping!). FYI, All Saints has a lot of great waterfall/draped jacket and coat options. Their pieces are well-made but pricey, so it may be worth waiting for an end-of-season sale. I love the cut of this trench, but unfortunately the dusty pink color doesn’t go with anything in my closet and it’s very similar to an AS spring jacket I already own.

3) Striped tissue turtleneck. This is currently on sale for 50% off (final retail: $14.99), so I thought it was a good time to stock up. I have the same tissue turtleneck in black from a couple seasons ago and it gets plenty of use in the fall and winter (lots of solid colors are also currently on sale!). I picked up the “navy ivory” and “ivory redwood” colorways in XXS. If it is similar to the black version I own, the fabric will stretch out for a slightly looser fit over time (something to keep in mind before you buy, as this is a final sale item).

Ok, that’s it for now. Happy weekend!

No Stress Dress: Three-Day Weekend Do-Over, 02.21.16.

outfits_02.21.2016

Work has been extremely busy and stressful these past few weeks. I’ve been putting in extra time outside of regular work hours to get a project out the door, which meant that I didn’t get to enjoy the President’s Day three-day weekend. Fortunately, I finally submitted my deliverable a few days ago (a report that ended up being about 250 pages long :P), and can now enjoy some much-needed time off!

Here are a couple things I wore while off-duty… I was glad to be giving the office wear a break for a few days. Happy weekend, all!

J. Crew Chateau Trench Coat, available in regular (000-16) and petite (000-12).

Hello, all! For those residing in the Northeast/mid-Atlantic region, I hope you have been faring well since snow storm Jonas hit. My neighborhood has been a mess since last Saturday– luckily, I was able to to work from home for the first half of the week. However, staying cooped up binge-watching Making a Murderer (omg) and listening to podcasts (currently hooked on Mortified and Rupaul What’s the Tee?) has made me stir crazy and now I’m pining away for warmer, sunnier days. Coincidentally, J. Crew rolled out new arrivals this week and I was excited to see that they came out with a springtime version of their popular Chateau Parka, which has served me well these past two winters. See my previous review of that coat here. I had some birthday and holiday gift cards to burn, so I decided to give the Chateau Trench Coat a try. To my surprise, my order arrived in lightning speed (two days!?) despite the foul weather. So here goes my full review…
