I’ve been visiting family in California this week and the weather has been fairly warm for this time of year. Living on the East Coast and experiencing all four seasons has certainly made me appreciate the perpetually beautiful weather in Southern California. Another perk associated with the year-round warmer climate is that I still get to reap the benefits of my parents’ guava tree in November! Today, I share a simple rum cocktail recipe using some of the fruits I picked from their backyard.
Orange-Guava Rum Cocktail Recipe
- 1 lemon, or 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 4-5 small ripened guavas sliced, or 1/2 cup guava nectar
- 3 ounces rum (I used Puerto Rican rum)
- splash of orange juice
- crushed ice
In a bowl, muddle the guava slices together with the sugar and lemon juice until the fruits are completely mashed and sugar is dissolved. Pour the mixture into a glass filled halfway with crushed ice. Add rum to the glass and stir. Pour a splash of orange juice into the glass to taste. Garnish with some extra slices of guava if desired. Makes 1 drink.
